Manipulation-Collaboration

a 100-day-long project starting May 22, 2010

Day 100 Nostalgia

Uncut

Postcard pieces

Vintage greeting cards cut up and sewn (no glue) together to form this little memory of the 60′s.

It’s over 100 days gone in the blink of an eye. 100 little pieces of creativity. This project is about collaboration. So if you want to take one of the posetcard size pieces manipulate it with drawing painting collage writing, cutting …whatever let me know .

Day 99 Violet Blue Movement

Some old artificial “silk” flowers were today’s toy. I hated the look of the flowers but loved the violet and blue almost tie dyed effect in individual petals. I deconstructed them and glued them down overlapping and undulating. Sometime they look like feathers, sometimes strange underwater growths. This really builds texture and tough to scan.

Day 98 All that Glitters is Glitter

Uncut

Postcard pieces

Just playing with glitter. These images don’t really show the sparkle which is the charm of this post. It almost looks like clouds moving behind little glitter squares.

Day 97 Security

Opening the mail I started laughing when the thought struck me that in an age where we have drones the size of flies, microphones that can hear through walls, computer hackers who can find out anything about you that we can rest assured that financial documents received through the mail are “protected” from prying by the security printed paper lining the envelopes. Think about it.

Day 96 As The Seasons Change

Although this doesn’t look it it was one of the most complicated to create. I first sliced lines in the paper with a razor blade, then wove through strips of was paper and ironed the result to form a resist . Painted on green watercolor, over that glue tinted with yellow green acrylic. I then glued the whole thing on a brown painted paper, tore out some of the strips for trunks, cut paper leaves and pasted them on using orange tinted glue. Phew!

Day 95 Don’t Tell Me What To Do!

Uncut

Postcard pieces

Just a colorful comment on how we are told over and over what to do by entities we don’t even know!

Day 94 Greenmail

Uncut

Postcard pieces

Today’s inspiration was junk mail. I cut off all the green parts an turned them into leaves.

Day 93 Fuzzy Edges

The paper was prepared with gesso then I affixed ripped pieces of printed rice paper making sure to use the fuzzy edges. It almost feels to me like jellyfish swimming.

Day 92 The Solution

Uncut

Postcard pieces

Swimming to the bottom of the gulf with a plug. Is it over?

Day 91 Overachieving Arachnids

Uncut

Postcard pieces

Just for fun what would spiders weave if they got tired of webs. Lace like this? Maybe.
